In Western Civ class today I found we have a quiz tomorrow. YAY!!!  Cuneiform is the earliest form of writing.  The Fertile Crescent includes modern day Syria, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, and Turkey.  The Tigers and Euphrates River provides good water and good soil.  A city state is a form of government to control cities and the surrounding areas.  Gilgamesh was a king who created a flood that destroyed to earth and he repopulated the whole world.  A dynasty is a series of rulers from a single family.  Cultural Diffusion is a process that includes ideas, beliefs, and culture that is spread from people to people.  Polytheism is belief in multiple gods.  Monarchy is when one king rules a government.  A ziggurat is a place of worship and is also where the government meets.  Silt is rich soil that comes from flooding.  At the end of class, Mr Schick told us about his trip to Paris and saw the Mona Lisa and how he saw Hammurabi's Code.  Then in the last 15 minutes of class, we got to work on our blogs.

Today in Western Civ class, we took more notes from the textbook and learned more about how to take notes accurately for when we go to college.  We took notes on section 1 called City-States in Mesopotamia.  The main idea is the earliest civilization in Asia arose in Mesopotamia and organized into city-states.  This matters now because the development of this civilization reflects a settlement pattern that has occurred repeatedly throughout history.  We also learned about the Fertile Crescent and the geography.  The silt is rich soil that is good for farming and is left behind after floods.  Some environmental issues are unpredictable floods and no natural barriers.  The five characteristics of civilization are advanced cities, specialized workers, complex institutions, record keeping, and improved tech.  City states are cities with area around it.  This is mostly everything we worked on this class!

Western Civ Class Day 4

Today in Western Civ class, we continued taking notes and watching the Guns, Germs, and Steel video.  We learned that Draa is one of the oldest communities grew their own plants 11,500 years ago.  Plant domestication is being able to control what you grow.  Thousands of years ago China frew rice, The Americas grew corn, squash, and beans, and Africa grew sorghum, millet, and yams.  All of these items that were grown were natural and could be stored for a long time unlike Papua New Guinean people who grew sago and it only lasted for a couple of days.  Sago was their main plant so sometimes they would eat spiders too.  Later 2,500 years later New Guineans found goats and created a pen for them.  Before the Industrial Revolution, the used horses or ox to plow dirt.  We learned that there were only 14 animals that have successfully been domesticated.  Finally, at the end of the day, we got to watch Mr.Schick pretend to be a zebra and kick his leg...

Western Civ Class Blog Day 3

Today in Western Civ class we went over our notes that we took on the video called Guns, Germs, and Steel and then Mr. Schick surprised us with a pop quiz about the video.  He thought that since we knew all of our notes that we were ready for the quiz, but I didn't think I was.  The questions on the quiz were easy except for number 3 because I didn't remember the answer.  After we passed the pop quiz in, we went over the answers and I realized I got one wrong.  After we finished the quiz, we got to work on our blogs because Mr. Schick didn't want us to fail our first three blogs, so he gave us a free pass and let us work on all of our blogs that we had to turn in this week.  The class was pretty chill and we just had a nice day.
