Today Mr. Schick taught us about ancient greece. In Mesopotamia the two rivers are the Tigres and Euphrates. Egypt's river is the Nile river. The Indus is the river in India. China's river is the Huang He River. Mr. Schick told us that we have to be able to label the following places on a map, the Aegean Sea, Ionian Sea, Adriatic Sea, Peloponnesus (where the Peloponnesian war between Sparta and Athens), Athens, Sparta, Crete, Asia Minor, and Macedonia. Greece is a mountainous peninsula and the mountains covered it 3 quarters. Approximately 2000 islands in the Ionian and Aegean Sea and this combination shaped Greeces culture. Greece had many skilled sailors and shipbuilders. Also farmers, metalworkers, weavers, and potters. They had poor or limited natural resources so they needed to trade and it was difficult to unite the ancient greeks because of the terrain. The developed small, independent communities (city-states) that who they were loyal to.
